When to Worm Puppies and Kittens

Caring for puppies and kittens isn’t all play and cuddles—it also involves safeguarding them against internal parasites. Intestinal worms can stunt growth and affect overall health, so having a proper deworming schedule is crucial.

General Guidelines

  • 🍼 Early Start: Begin deworming at 2–3 weeks of age since puppies and kittens can be born with or pick up worms from their mother.

  • ♻️ Routine: Deworm every 2 weeks until they reach 8–12 weeks old, then follow up with monthly preventative (or vet-recommended) treatments.

  • 🔎 Signs of Infestation: Diarrhea, vomiting, pot-bellied appearance, or visible worms in feces.

Choosing the Right Dewormer

  • 🏷️ Broad-Spectrum: Look for products covering roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms.

  • ⚖️ Check Dosage: Adjust according to weight and always follow label instructions.

  • 👩‍⚕️ Consult a Vet: For personalized advice if you’re unsure.

Fun Fact: 🐛 Roundworms can sometimes be transferred to humans, especially young children. That’s one more reason why regular deworming and good hygiene are so important!
